Temperatures in July and August can reach 40 degrees centigrade,
But the other months of summer can be in the low 30s. This is usually fine for sightseeing. So, where to go ?
Crete, home of Zeus and Daedalus, is a destination where ancient history, dramatic landscapes, and vibrant local culture come together. Crete offers a rich mix of natural beauty and timeless charm. Visitors can explore the legendary Palace of Knossos, hike the breathtaking Samaria Gorge, or relax in traditional villages where Cretan hospitality shines. Whether you’re drawn by archaeology, mythology, or authentic cuisine, Crete has something unforgettable for every traveller.
Long before Zeus was hurling thunderbolts like divine temper tantrums, two caves on Crete got into the pettiest rivalry in mythological history.
On one side was Dikteon Cave, insisting, “Obviously he was born here. I have dramatic stalactites, excellent acoustics for newborn crying, and a nice mysterious vibe.”
On the other side was Ideon Cave, saying, “Please. I’m on Mount Ida. If you’re hiding a baby from a child-eating Titan, you pick the cave with the better views and the prestige address.”
For centuries, scholars have argued over which cave truly hosted baby Zeus.
In the end, Zeus grew up, overthrew his dad, and never bothered to clarify the matter—proving that even the king of the gods enjoys letting two caves argue about him forever.
You choose, go visit, but I cannot say. I would not wish to rile Zeus.
